Archdiocese to Support Humanitarian Relief in Nepal and Colombia

Two significant natural disasters in recent days have resulted in tremendous loss of life, widespread destruction and the displacement of thousands of people in both Nepal and Colombia.

On August 26, catastrophic flash flooding and mudslides struck Nepal following a massive glacial and rock collapse near the Nepal-China border. Communities along the Bhotekoshi and Trishuli river systems have been devastated, with homes, roads, bridges and other critical infrastructure destroyed. More than 900 people have died and thousands remain missing as search, rescue and relief efforts continue.

On August 10, a magnitude 7.4 earthquake struck western Colombia, with its epicentre near San José del Palmar. The earthquake caused widespread destruction across several regions of the country. More than 330 people have died, thousands have been injured and hundreds of thousands of people have been affected. Homes, schools, health facilities and other essential infrastructure have sustained significant damage.

The Archdiocese of Toronto will accept donations for humanitarian relief efforts in Nepal and Colombia and will channel funds through trusted Catholic partners responding to the emergencies and assisting affected communities.
